Greetings,
I've been smoking pipes for over a year but haven't bought a "serious" pipe yet. I would like to buy a fully bent (or at least somewhat bent) pipe that is easy to hold in the mouth for long periods, a pipe that is good for reading. I prefer large pipes to small ones.
Can you recommend a pipe for me? Price needs to be not above $200. I was thinking about the Peterson 307, however I find different images of it online and it looks somewhat different in each photo, so I'm not sure. Whatever pipe I buy I'd have to buy online, so advice such as "go to the pipe shop and look around" won't be helpful: there are no pipe shops where I live.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Best,

TCB

Welcome, TCB, to the forum
I am also very fond of full bents; almost every pipe I own is bent. In your 200 level, you can buy many brands from Stanwell through Dunhill but I have several suggestions as long as you don't mind purchasing a 'used' pipe, the best value, IMHO
The first is going to be Mike at briarblues.com. He will be extremely helpful in advising you on picking out an estate pipe from his inventory, or if he doesn't have one that you like, will keep an eye out for you
The advantage of using Mike is that he will advise and recommend a good smoker in your price range. He has certainly helped me and other members of the forum
If your wiling to take some risk, there is always ebay. The values are certainly there, but without knowledge of pipes in general you could get stuck with a poorly made product
And of course we have the sellers who advertise on the forum such as smoking pipes, cupojoes, etc, all who will help you in your specific search.
Good luck!

+1 On everything above. Cupojoes and pipesandcigars, both sponsors, have excellent customer service.
Peterson makes top notch pipes, they are my whole family's brand of choice. But I hear great things about Stanwell and Savinelli. My advice for finding any pipe is pick a brand and browse their catalog for the shape that sticks out. You can judge a pipe by its cover. It has worked out pretty well for me.
Welcome to the forum and happy piping!

This Savinelli looks like a super deal to me. (Linked image)

The chamber diameter is .78" -- seemingly kinda small, but

it will work nicely for continuous sipping while clenching.

(A larger diameter chamber would require deeper and more frequent draws.)

Not a Peterson, Savinelli, or Dunhill, but I own a British made Falcon Coolway #105 which takes a 9 mm filter and it is a great smoker for a relatively inexpensive briar pipe. It has a .79" interior bowl diameter with a nominal Calabash style bowl and saddle stem. The only problem that I've found is that they aren't marketed in the States as much as they are over in Europe but I do believe that some dealers here in the States do carry some of their models.

If you don't mind estates this one would be right at the top of your price range but it would be worth it -Link
Otherwise I think you should go Peterson as they have the most options in bent pipes in your range

My vote goes to the Savinelli 606 EX, which has a 9mm filter. When reading, I let it hang from the mouth and rest on my chest, but it is also possible to clench it for some time. In fact I am smoking it right now and it is a fantastic smoker.

Lots of suggestions I'm sure you will get those :)
Here are some (hand-made), if you look real hard you can find them for about the $200 mark;
