I aquired a very dirty estate pipe, and during extensive cleaning I discovered the shank bore hole will fit a folded cleaner easily. Short of inserting a dowel and redrilling can this cheap no name, but very nice looking pipe be saved?

Any pipe can be saved, is it worth the money /time is the question and that is your call to make. Sorry I have no first hand experience so I can't go in anymore detail.

I haven't smoked it due to the oversized bore, so I don't know how it smokes. And this is something I want to repair myself, not send out. As a $10.00 pipe, I'll either fix it, smoke it or just look at if the other two options fail.

Give it a smoke before rendering a verdict. I have a couple over-drilled pipes and one smokes wonderfully with a little tighter packing while the other one just smokes badly no matter what.

Trail I have a Dunhill Black Briar that you can almost load a 38 bullet in it , bought it from Dave Neeb , when I retorted it I had to double 2 Q-tips and wrap Saran Wrap around them to seal it up for a salt /alcohol treatment , I mentioned it to Dave and he agreed that it was unusually large, clean up was finished and it is a fine smoker, smoke that Boger Red. The old cajun

Verdict is in. It somkes very well, I'm a sipper and I had to slow down because it was getting hot. Still, half a bowl into the smoke and it easily stays lit, and draws effortlessly. I'm a relative beginner and I thought I read in here somewhere that a large bore would ruin a pipe. This bore is probably large enough to fit three cleaners in at one time.

If you're getting good flavor and air flow, that's about as good as it gets. I had a Ben Wade that

just seemed to get a little more air than smoke coming at me, and I finally traded it on something

I like better, but this is most unusual. I have a number of pipes and they all seem to draw well,

nice even smoking. Your pipe sounds fine. Contented smoking to you!

Being able to fit a folded pipe cleaner is a good sign in my books :) That's about the size I bore up most of my pipes that don't want to smoke well in their original state ^^

If you decide you want to try to fix it, you could go with a Dunhill inner tube. Buy some stainless steel tubing in the diameter that will fit, drill out the stem to the OD of the tubing to about 1/2" then glue in the tube.
