I am possibly going camping for a batchelor party in August, which will include my fat ass tubing down a river.

I figure I'd take a bunch of cobs to share and for the tubing (since my luck would result in some drowning pipes).

What would the best way be to take tobacco down the river? I'm thinking pouches and zip lock bags.

Any suggestions for blends to share with others who probably haven't smoked a pipe? I'm thinking Latakia around the fire, a Cavendish like Smokers Pride cherry for tubing, and a basic Virginia and burley like Amphora and Half and Half for tubing.

Any other tips or suggestions?

I like the screw top jars sold by Missouri Meerschaum, but I think they are out of stock. Just find a non-breakable small can of some kind that has a tight fitting screw cap.

For the short term, this should work as well as a ziploc, won't get torn, and is less likely to get left partly open.

If you don't smoke on the river, then you won't need to worry about dropping a pipe, just getting it wet with your gear. If you do smoke midstream, then I use a rigged up lanyard attached to the pipe worn around my neck.

I do all this while wade fishing, not tubing, but the principle is the same. Have Fun!

My $.02 is that if you get a single opportunity to share your pipe smoking love with others - you'll have done well - 3X is a Pipe Dream.

Do it on dry land and don't be surprised if they have little patience for learning...

my suggestion is not to go. Sounds like a recipe for annoyance. Too many folks for such a trip. Each person is a significant increase in the chance of someone doing something so stupid it ruins the whole thing. Or at least that is my opinion.

I stick with cigarettes near water. Dry damned fast for quick smoke. Sometimes, you can smoke 'em wet as long as it's not soaking wet. Plastic pipes will float, but you can only blow bubbles.

I appreciate all insight and am going to save the pipes for the camping portion (with a cigar or 2 for tubing).

The water box/bag is a stellar idea. Despite the beard, I'm not a rugged outdoorsman.

Funny story, my sister's girl scout troop got camping and swimming badges by staying the weekend at a hotel with a pool.

Sounds like you're going to have a good time. Years ago I floated down the Current River near Doniphan, Missouri in a tube. No pipe was involved, but we had a blast anyway. I would skip the pipe while on the river and only smoke while on land.

I cannot imagine being a female in the woods. I bought some of my beloved girls a “pee funnel “.
