Added the word "tobacco" to the title, as without it, several of us Californians would have heart attacks out of joy.
Cigars sold in California are just a bit cheaper today, as the state’s annual tobacco tax equalization changes went into effect, decreasing the state’s tobacco tax rate from 56.32 percent of the wholesale cost to 52.92 percent.

Read all about it here.

In the meantime another gas tax is about to go into effect, people in CA are famous for voting in taxes that won't take effect for several years, "well be then it will be different", another 6 or 7 cents a gallon is a hell of a lot more than a couple percent on cigars. There is also the miles driven tax for electric vehicles, save money on gas they said.. LOL

Allow me to restate something the article mentioned for emphasis . . . the tax rate went down because the rate calculation is tied to other economic factors, not because there's been a legislative change of heart in California.
