Calabash Pipes ?

For some reason I guess because it's too wet to mow the grass I find myself looking for something to do today.I've been doing some reading on the history of pipe smoking.One thing that I can't seem to find is information on the origons of Calabash pipes.Anyone have any info on this subject?

Theres a whole book about it. P&C.com has it I think. I haven't read it, but I'm reather interested in this subject as well
