Several "kakes" have been recommended, but I can't remember if this was one of them. Anyone have any thoughts/opinions? It's in stock and wanted feedback. Thanks!

My experience with Pirate Kake is just about the same as Ten Russians or Old Ironsides. I haven't smoked very much of each but that's my initial impressions.

As for what I think of the blends, it seems like these tend to be more earthy and less savory, but I could be doing something wrong.
When I tried pure bulk Latakia it didn't have as much flavour to it either, this may simply be another case of "too much of a good thing". At 75% Latakia I suspect I would like it more cut down with some pure Virginia.

Actually for that matter Pirate Kake doesn't have any Va to begin with.

A favorite here. Bought some of the one pound bricks a few years ago,,and it ages wonderfully. Good stuff, and readily available.

Personal opinion — I find Pirate Kake to be a little much, and I do like latakia. Ten Russians, I'm fine with it. Pirate Kake, not so much. I have several tins of the latter and have them socked away, hoping they will mellow with time.

"Less savory" is a good description. "Less tang" fits, too. It's good.

If you like latakia then yes, Pirate Kake is first rate. A bit too much lat for every day for me, but excellent when in the mood.

I haven't smoked PC but I have smoked ~80g of Chenet's Cake, and making 35% Perique tasty and balanced, with the it certainly comfortably in the lead, is no small trick. I should have payed attention better but a C&D employee described the blending process as being more elaborate than most, apparently with the addition of white? burley as one of the finishing touches to effect balance. That Craig Tarler could pull off a PC with its very high proportion is latakia is a similar achievement. I've never read much negative comment about it; rather, the reverse.

Great smoke with elements of coal tar soap and cough drops. Recommend.

This blend gives you a solid Latakia but also gives you a visit from vitamin N as well I love this stuff.

Pirate Kake has decent flavor, but for me it left me wanting for the Nic. It showed up in the final 1/3 of the bowl, and that's not ok with me. 10 Russians is much better in my opinion.
