My review of C&D Exhausted Rooster.
I've been eyeing this blend from the one pipe shop I know of in Seoul. Finally bit the bullet.
Tobacco: C&D Exhausted Rooster.

Tin Date: 03/2013

Blend: Va/Bur/Per

Bouquet: Cranberry sauce, apple cider vinegar, sweet bread, prune juice, rum.
One might assume this is an aromatic upon first (and second) smell. However, I couldn't find any information regarding a topping being added to this blend, yet none that would say there isn't. My gut tells me there isn't any flavored casing, just a really damn well executed blend.
After two false lights, the first few puffs and a nice strong retro-hale offers a sharp and spicy flavor. Think of those hot cinnamon balls you had when you were a child. The nose tingles as if a cinnamon stick was being inhaled. Not too strong but it sure wakes the senses. The Virginia in this blend take lead in the first 1/3 of the bowl. The "aromatic" essence that is in the bouquet dissipates just before the end of it.
The next portion of the bowl the Virginias leaf flavors are toned down but the sweetness from the caramelized sugars picks up with the addition of the dark fired burley complementing it well. The perique is poking its head here and there. The first sharp and spicy notes have died down but are still present as a condiment.
The last 1/3 of the bowl the flavors really come together with the perique spiciness gone. The prune flavor really shines here. The dark fired burley offers a slight charred brisket flavor.
This blend really surprised me. The only other Va/Bur/Per blend I have tried is GLP Triple Play, yet TP offers a complete different experience. The 5+ years of age on ER probably has something to do with that.
All in all, this blend is a medium-full flavored tobacco. I definitely am glad I picked this tin up with the age it had on it. It is a very unique tobacco that I think I'm going to keep in my rotation and in the cellar.

Great review, this one is on my radar. I'm enjoying my TAD C & D Red Odessa atm.
