Let me start by stating that I do not believe I have experienced true tongue bite. That said, I broke in my new Black Morta this evening with some aged Burley Solani, and I believe I came close to bite. My tongue feels a bit hairy, is that bite?

What tobacco bites you the worse?

It sounds kind of like cotton mouth. In other words, dry mouth/tounge.

Smoking with uncarbonated liquids may help.

Hairy tongue sounds similar to licking a camel, which is how a non-smoker once described his mouth after overindulgence of some cigars on a vacation.

Put another way, the non-smoker was likely dehydrated. Or he enjoyed time in the French Quarter with a morally loose woman (okay, not loose, but wide open).

Boo-rley basically always bites me, even Lane's LBWB.
BLWB is the only burley that bites me. I think that the name is just supposed to be ironic or something. Now, burleys can make my tongue feel taxed or overused, especially after a long smoking session with a heavily laden nic blend, but it's not like tongue bite at all.

I can se how that would cause it. How do you get the camel to hold still? And they're pretty tall, do you get them to kneel down or use a ladder?

I'm holding my tongue on this one! (Seems to be a solution to all of the above, lol)!

Okay, I mean the except for the camel bit, is that a one hump or a two hump thing? Or just the toe?

If it stings, I count it as tongue bite, though it affects the gums and the rest of the mouth too. If I brush my teeth with peppermint-like toothpaste, and it stings all over again, that's bite. Interestingly, to me anyway, the worst tongue bite I've experienced was from holiday blends full of flavorings, and I think the flavorings were the worst offenders.

I've had mild tongue bite from both burley and Virginia based blends, but not often, and not much. I've had some strong burleys in which I would include Tambolaka the Indonesian air dried leaf, C&D Big'n'Burley, C&D Dark Burley and others, and I've had no bite from them that I remember. I'd say none.

Dry out your tobacco. Sip don't puff. Have a beverage with your pipe.
