Found this on eBay and thought it was interesting. I couldn't tell from the pics if the pipe was made that way or if someone cut the stem down. As far as I can tell the pipe was made this way as the stem is too well done and the slot in the button looks like it was machine made. I've never seen a short stemed bulldog before, but then I don't get out much. Anyway, it's a cool little pipe that was made in Denmark, but has no manufacturer's stamp. Nothing about the pipe looks much like it was made in Denmark, and it looks more like a Brigham. Any thoughts? A Bullvat maybe?

The saddle stem is pretty standard on bulldogs, but not such a short one of course, and the long shank is also original, as are the diagonal divisions on both the bowl and the shank and the rusticated and smooth finishes. However, it still comes across as a bulldog of a sort. I think it is an interesting variation on the theme, maybe not a resounding success, but well carried off as a unifying design. It doesn't have much of a Danish look, except perhaps that it is energetically designed. Just by looks, I'd guess it was Italian. Thanks for posting. If it smokes well, it could be a favorite.

Well lucky for me this pipe is a great smoking pipe! I'm sure you're all relieved to hear that!
Even though it's a smaller pipe length wise, (4 3/4") the bowl is still about a group 4 size. Smoked some GLP Sixpence in it, and it was a great combo. Nice draw, no gurgles, and man do I like Sixpence! It's fun to find little treasures like this from time to time. Working on a small budget makes you get creative, with some bargain buys being better than others. As banjo would say, "Keeping it smokey!"
