I'm leaning more toward bulk these days because I jar everything now. Although the 8oz H&H tins are cheaper than bulk if they are still on sale at P&C.

As a customer service rep, I bow to your logic and how you’ve handled the packaging of your products. I find no flaw in your approach to caving into the consumer’s demands and offering both bulk and tinned tobacco. I think it wise to leave it up to the consumer to think for themselves and decide what they like better. High quality taste at a moderate price, or slightly less high quality taste at rock bottom prices. I think it speak volumes for a company to let the consumer think for themselves a bit.
Happy Smoking Russ.

I might be able to distinguish between bulk and tinned versions of a blend in a side-by-side comparison;

but on its own, and without a reference, I don't think I could slice the baloney that thin. For me, bulk is better.

i gotta say kudos to a man that knows how many flavors of special k are on the market, and isn't afraid to reveal his knowledge of that. but also, it's a good article. left me wanting more.

What a great article, thanks Kevin and Russ. I did notice a difference in some tinned SG St James flake and the bulk version. Even the cut of the flake was different. I thought the perique notes of the tinned version were more pronounced than the bulk version, but that could be attributed to a difference in their ages( the bulk I bought I think had some age to it). To me the differences are so negligible it would not make me buy the tin over the bulk.

I prefer tinned because I know the tobacco will be fresh when it gets to me and it is not right to give a gift of tobacco to someone for a birthday or other holiday unless it is tinned. (although I bet you can get away with "oh, I was just aging it for you," haha)

I see some savings in bulk but I have been buying mason jars in all sizes from 8oz to 1 quart lately. This drives my cost up a bit. I do like actually seeing the baccy in the jars. Hopefully some time down the road I will see some affects of aging on my Va's. Tins are great to for the reasons mentioned above. I am really on the fence on this one as I am buying tins and bulk. It also depends on availability. I just bought 10 tins of Veermaster since the I can't seem to find any 8oz bags at the present time.
