Built a couple of these already, usually a lot of fun and using old wood that is getting thrown away is a huge bonus! On to the pics....
Old pallet that was going in the trash, let's make a cool, manly, rustic pipe rack shall we...

Some basic tools needed for assembly...

Pallet boards removed and ready for further cutting...

My "fancy" blueprints..i.e. measurements...

Cutting some wood...

Another shot of cutting in progress...

Starting the assembly...

Box nearly assembled...

Cut my finger when the saw slipped....be careful!!

Just about done, installed the pipe stem rests...

Another view...

Used an old Bass Guitar string I had laying around, can use this to hang the rack on the wall...

Used a Dremmel tool with sanding disk to make the slots where the bowl sits...

Top shelf...

Other side...

With the other rack I built last weekend...

Now that looks great. I like seeing what people come up with when they have a little material to recycle. Can you post a pic with your pipes in it as well.

Nice way to repurpose! And the final pieces turned out great. The rustic feel fits the pipes and tobacco tins nicely, and those racks would feel cozy in any home.
Sorry to hear about your fingers, but I think a lil' blood was worth the final outcome.

Nicely done. Personally, I would slap a little light stain on it just to bring out the texture in the pallet wood, but that's just a preference.
You hit a home run man. I think you could sell those things honestly.

Great. I really like the rough hewn style with room for a few tins. If you did stain these, maybe some red stain that will let the grain and knots shine through, an old barn wood look. Back at my wife's home place on a farm in northeast Missouri, the whole little town has been abandoned and a man has taken it over as a pallet factory. It's good to see some of this wood being re-purposed for pipers.

That's awesome! Would one day love to learn how to work with wood and build different types of projects. Great work and thanks for sharing!.

Very nice! I too love the rough hewn look of your pipe racks. Rugged and manly for sure.

I've been 'considering' the concept of pipe and tobacco storage as an adjunct and essential facet of the pipe experience and read this thread with great interest.

I love how you presented the concepts of initiative, innovation, artistic conservation (that old guitar string is great!), and humor.

I thought to myself when I saw the hand saw, wow, that's laborious.

Then when I saw the bandaged finger I had a second thought!

Good thing you didn't use a power saw.
