I just received an order from Missouri Meerschaum and the tenon is broken off in one of them (a nonfiltered). I really don't want to have to send it back (after all it is only a cob), so what is the best way to get the tenon out without doing too much damage to the stem? Should I use the screw method or drill it out, with the bit (and subsequent tenon) being made of plastic?

To be fair, I don't believe this is a problem on Missouri Meerschaum's part; more on US Postal's end. I had ordered two replacement bits with the order anyways. Like I said, its not that big of an issue. I just need to get the broken tenon out somehow so I can smoke this cob.

If you just want to pull the tenon out of the mortice....

Just gently screw in a wood screw that is only slightly larger than the draft hole.

Grasp with pliers and pull.
Hope that helps.
