The term "Broken Pipe" is used to refer to a deceased pipe smoker. In the future please do not use this term to refer to a pipe in need of repair. I know you weren't aware of this and I'm not chastising you, welcome to the forum.

Wow! Gee Phil that is good to know, I'll add that to my repertoire. Avid amateur radio operator here and a deceased amateur is a "Silent Key!"

I am gonna go out on a limb and say it probably can't be saved at this point. Mild cracks can be fixed, but that looks pretty bad.

I think even our most skilled pipe repair specialists would be unable to fix it. Keep the pipe as a memento of your grandfather, and and buy a new pipe in his memory that you can smoke.

My condolences on your loss(es.)
There are many good pipes, and I want them all!
Seriously, I don't know if there are any good tobacconists in Brazil, but most of the online sponsors are happy to ship to you. And all their pipes are good, and they are all honest businessmen.. Check out the sponsor links, and depending on how much you want to spend, you'll find the right pipe.

Think of it as your own personal Liberty Bell. Unusable, but still a mighty emblem of your origin and the legacy handed down to you.
Perhaps make a showcase for it?
(PS: Glad to see you here in the forum. Your English is very good, sir. Hope to see more posts from you.)

Welcome to the forum victornissen. As for the pipe you have, welllll not to fixable in my opinion. Save it as something special and buy yourself a new one ...

Welcome to the forums!
That 'was' a beautiful pipe! I'll go way out on a limb here and say you could try using a wood filler? But then again, doing that I would wonder about the toxicity in those compounds if you plan on smoking it? If it is a pipe you just want to keep for sentimental reasons and plan on not smoking, then sure, Fill in those cracked areas with a wood filler. Sand down to bare briar again then restain. Will the cracked areas still be visable, I would not know.
Your best bet is to say bye bye, Sorry to say this. It sure waa a nice pipe in it's day.

I have wondered how and why the term "broken pipe" came into the usage it has in the piping community instead of something like

"burn-out" or "dead ember". Anybody got any better terms? :D
