Just wondering is it worth buying a cherrywood pipe.
I've seen some high end cherrywood pipes like The Savinelli "Autograph" group 0 poker £667.73 or $818.00.
Are the cheaper ones going to be worth it.
Like all things, cheap briar pipes can be awful but how bad are the cheap cherrywood pipes.
Any advise would be much appreciated.

Is it an actual cherrywood, or just the cherrywood pipe shape?

You can make a pipe out of almost any wood. But some could be poisonous, taste horrible, burn very quickly, or have other problems. Of course, once you select a wood block, you need certain tools and woodworking skills.

Yesterday, I smoked the pipe I made at the pipe making seminar at the Chicago Pipe Show, a few years ago. It turned out good. But, I also saw that to become good requires a lot more tools, and skills than I have. I decided to retire as a winner and enjoy pipes from other carvers.

chasing' hit a key point, that cherrywood is both a pipe shape that can be done in briar or other woods, or a pipe material. Most responsible retailers will spell this out or list it with the specifications. The materials that I trust as much as briar are Meerschaum, cob made by Missouri Meerschaum, and Mountain Laurel which so far as I know is only currently being done by Jerry Perry of Colfax, N.C., sold only at the N.C. State Fair or TAPS pipe show, not online, unless you find an estate.
