I recently acquired a small briar (stacked dublin) off ebay in Europe. Got it for 1 euro! It is simply stamped "John Bull" and underneath that "London Made" both on the underside of the shank. It is also stamped with the number "474". Does anyone here have any information on this pipe? I know that Sasieni made a second called John Bull but this pipe doesn't have the "Sasieni Made" stamp. Any input or thoughts on the maker and age of this pipe will be greatly appreciated.

Sablebrush52,
I've got to find a copy of that book!

I've been trying to figure who made the Britannia 64 I have. It has a trident on the stem. Most I've found have the letters RB (with the R in reverse).

I also have a Big Ben Crosley. I can find a few lines of information about Big Ben but even less about Crosley.

According to that description it would be Comoy.

I couldn't find anything specific to the Crosley, but here's a video on the Big Ben factory and manufacturing process:

Any connection to John Bull Royal English, the pouch tobacco sold by PC? Probably not, but it came to mind.

sablebrush52 - That was the first place I looked. I have smoked it twice since I gave it a good cleaning and removed the oxidation from the stem. It may have been a Comoy second or lesser brand, but it sure smokes good and is engineered well. I'm more curious because it has the letters TV stamped into the stem but the information about that is pretty slim also.
I found it and a Britannia (64 shape) at an antique shop for $10 each.

A Britannia with a trident in the stem, I have one - shape 39 dublin - its a lower grade Comoy.

jensen - it may be a lower grade Comoy but it sure smokes good for a $10 pipe. I removed the stinger and the pipe cleaner slides easily all the way to the bowl. Very good draw.

Yes, Danish crowns----we voted about the Euro and rejected it, so we still have our own money
