I've been advised by a member to check out some tutorials on the breath technique, but what I've watched so far has been both a little difficult to follow, and conflicting. For that reason I would appreciate some guidance, especially on avoiding inhalation.
Now let me stress I haven't tried this yet (still waiting for my pipe to arrive) so the inhalation part is simply a presumption based on how I understand the technique is executed.
The first guy I watched states that no inhalation takes place, but when watching the second tutorial I couldn't really understand how it can possibly be avoided.
Here's my understanding of it, based on the first guy:
Close the mouth and breath in steadily, primarily through the nose, while taking a small draw through the mouth towards the end. Then breath out gently, but through the pipe itself, rather than the mouth.
The second guy said that breath smoking simply involves breathing in a naturalistic way while drawing on the pipe, and then every second rotation blowing out through the pipe.
Now when you consider that we breath to draw oxygen into our lungs, how does this method not draw the tobacco smoke into our lungs?

Generally, and not in reference to any particular method, when I smoke I sort of close off the inhalation from my mouth to my lungs so that I can breathe oxygen through my nose without drawing any smoke into my lungs. As far as the technique, someone else will help you better than I can. People's definitions of techniques will usually vary, because everyone just does what works for themselves.

You don't actually use your breath to draw, you use breathing as a metronome for drawing.

Still a tad confused, I must admit. I think maybe I'll need to practice this before I can fully understand.
I guess no inhalation tales place because you're breathing through your nose only, and only 'storing' the smoke in your mouth until you're ready to get rid. But why do you blow the smoke back down the pipe, rather than just part your lips and expel it that way?

Not really blowing the smoke out of the pipe but cycling it back and forth through the shank to cool it. The video I posted above explains it better.

Except that he breathes back through the pipe on every draw. Surprised he hasn't burned a hole in a pipe like that.

I too found some of the various explanations a bit confusing and overly complex at first. What worked for me was to simply put all of my focus on my breathing through my nose rather than "smoking" the pipe.
If the tobacco is dry enough and packed correctly, I find that just breathing through my nose is usually sufficient to keep it going and will create enough of a draw into the mouth with perhaps just very light sipping as needed or desired along with it.
Pretty soon it'll start to become second nature.

Well I still haven't tried this yet so maybe should be holding fire until I do, but this brings me back to the unintentional inhalation thing. If breathing through the nose creates enough of a draw to bring smoke into the mouth, how is it not going down into your lungs?

Drawing into the mouth does not mean you have to draw it into your lungs. But I’m sure that there is at least some small amount that does go into the lungs while smoking and breathing...but certainly nothing like a cigarette smoker who is intentionally inhaling it.
But if you live in a city, you’re already inhaling plenty of toxins...and I seriously doubt that whatever small amount your lungs get from pipe smoking is something to be concerned about...but that’s for you to decide.
