Has anyone tried breaking in a cob by putting a thin layer of syrup in the tobacco hole before smoking?

Some use honey, syrup, and even grape jelly. Cake in a cob should be discouraged altogether so a layer of anything isn't necessary.

Never broke in a cob. Never had any reason to.
That's the beauty of cobs.
Save the honey/ jelly/syrup for breakfast.

The only breaking in I found on a cob was that the first couple of bowls had a sickly-sweet, burning corn taste.

I've heard of the honey trick for cobs before. Some swear by it, some say it isn't necessary - much like everything else pipe related actually.
