First off, I am a fan of latakia and do not like full-on aromatics. Don't really care for lat bombs, but do like a good smoky blend.
I'd like to get into some quality latakia blends with a light, but noticeable casing flavoring.
Would anyone be so kind as to make suggestions?

Pretty sure Nightcap has a light casing on it, although it may just be a topping. It is smokey and has perfect burn too. Excellent smoke. Also, Bengal Slices isn't bad either. Not sure if Quiet Nights is cased, but I do recommend that too.

When I think of English blends with a little bit "extra", my mind goes right to Two Friends English Chocolate and Boswell's Northwoods, both of which were mentioned previously in this thread, and both of which scratch that itch for me.

To understand more about casing vs topping, this might help...

As shown above, Jeremy Reeves, head blender at C&D, has a great presentation on casing & topping on you tube. Very good information and clearly explains the difference.
Apparently, not all blends are cased or topped and he offers examples of blends that one can try to compare the with and without casing/topping.

Two friends english chocolate (more english than aro - absolutely amazing if smoked slow - harsh if smoked fast),

Missouri meerschaum American Patriot (perfect balance of sweet and smoky, similar to Frog Morton Cellar, was a long time favorite of mine - whiskey topping)

Sutliff 504c english (more sweet and slightly smoky)

Sutlish majestic english (well balanced, often compared to frog morton, the more i smoke, the more i like it)

C&D sweet english (more aro than english - buttery/caramel topping)

Sutliff count pulaski (more light american english than sweet aro, but very good - still pretty sweet)

Sutliff English Luxury #17 (like 504c but a tad smokier)

Casing/Topping

I was under the impression that almost all tobaccos are cased at some point, and many have toppings, some unnoticeable, and some that scream out.

I didn't know you could taste the casing!
There are some that have no casings, mostly C&D. But, casings can be tasted if you get accustomed to the taste of tobaccos without it. Mostly it is only those labelled aromatics that have been topped.
