Ok, picking back up pipe smoking motivated me to finish a room in the basement. Nothing fancy, but will have comfortable seating, nice flat screen, and some sort of furniture to store pipes and tobacco. My concern is smoke and odor, from my pipe. No windows, ceiling fan, what I'm asking about, Can you recommend from first hand experience the right type of machine that I can plug in to do away with smoke and odor concerns. Really appreciate the help. Room is 16x12.

While you are working on an air filter system, grab a bag of plain old charcoal and put some out in a pan. You will be surprised at how well it works. I use it all winter in my shop and most people can't tell I smoke like a chimney out there all winter long.

I think with basements and other closed areas, the main need is for air flow, and input of outside air to the degree possible while still maintaining heating and cooling for comfort. Just getting a unit that filters air to reduce pipe odor, for example, will miss the point unless you have some reasonable quality air to filter. A dehumidifier may also be an option if the humidity runs high. If there's any probability of basement flooding or even just minor leakage, keep your pipes and tobacco well above what you consider the likely waterline. You might consider keeping the pipes and tobacco on an upper floor of the house with a smoking station below, if that's not too much hauling stuff around.

Thank you for the advice, and the link to the earlier thread. Air flow is good, looking at a Medify Air unit at this point.

I bought an ozone machine for approx. $100.00 from Amazon and the thing works amazing. 30 minutes of it running and you can’t tell I smoked anything in my basement. Fresh as an afternoon thunderstorm.
