So i got this pipe for cheap and I like the shape and the way it looks (have not used yet) but what is with the discoloration on the bowl? Can this be repaired? I wanted to ask before I tackled this with the wrong methods/tools.
TIA,
Jim

The first photo looks as if a liquid was splattered on the pipe. Some sort of thinner or spirits that would remove stain?

You could remove the stain and restrain the pipe.

The rim could be cleaned and a possible lite sanding to remove the char and smooth out any imperfections.

If it were mine, I wouldn't take a damp cloth to it first, water and elbow grease and see what comes off. Then think about a more aggressive approach like sanding with fine grit sandpaper and recoating it.

Hmmmm... It really looks like the finish was damaged. Like someone sprayed it with a strong chemical. I can feel the surface changes like the coating was damaged. I tried cleaning with denatured alcohol and mineral spirits and nothing came off. I might try acetone next.
I've been looking at pipes for a while now and have not come across another that has this finish.
Thanks All

I like the way it looks. I would probably leave it as is. But then I like different and / or unusual things...

Gave up both Chevis and Backgammon when they became popular - same w/ Stoley...
