Hello guys.. I'm new to pipe smoking and I figured you all would have way more knowledge on the subject than anybody I know. I bought a pipe today at an estate sale and I don't know much about it, or if it's a decent pipe.
It has Savinelli Extra on one side and 207 on the other. It's also a twin bore. It definitely has been used, but I thought it looked pretty nice. Any thoughts or info on it?

Looks like a fine pipe to me. Enjoy it! Sanitize the stem before you smoke it. Rubbing alcohol or liquor will clean the stem right up. Pour just enough to soak the stem for a bit, run some pipe cleaners through it and scrub around the bit a little. Doesn't look like it needs much more that that.

What tobacco are you going to be smoking ?

Yeah, it does need a little cleaning up. I'm not sure what to smoke out of it yet, what would you recommend? Like I said, I'm new to this. lol.
Thank you mp31guitar! I appreciate that. Any value to a pipe like that? I got it cheap.

Savinellis are excellent pipes, so you definitely have a good buy there. Especially as your first pipe !
With regards to cleaning it up, here is a good article on this forum that'll give you some tips and tricks you can do with the stuff you probably have at home.
Finally on the tobacco front, the world is your oyster ! It all depends what you like. Aromatics, non-aromatics, different blends, too much to mention.
If you live close to a tobacco store, walk in and ask for some samples. Smell the different jars and see what entices you. If not, you can buy some sampler packs from most of the site sponsors here.
Good luck, welcome on board. Sit down, relax and enjoy the ride. And above all, don't stress, this is supposed to be a relaxing hobby

Yes, but no, but yes.
Allow me to explain... YES it has value in that it will probably be a very serviceable pipe once it's cleaned up and sanitized. So yes, it has value. But NO, it probably doesn't have much monetary value. There are just SO many Savinelli pipes out there that I strongly doubt you'd get more than $20 or so under normal circumstances.
But YES, there is a way that you probably CAN get some decent money for this pipe, but only if you act fast. Here's how: I don't know if you watched it, but there was recently a mini-series on the History Channel titled "Hatfields and McCoys". In this miniseries, Kevin Costner smoked a short stemmed apple pipe very similar to yours and ever since then people have been going NUTS trying to find a similar pipe. Don't ask me why, but folks see something on TV and all of a sudden they want it. Anyway, if you wanted to try to make some money on this pipe, I'd clean it up and list it for sale as a "Hatfield-style pipe". I'd guess you could probably sell it for $60 to $80. But eventually people are going to lose interest in Hatfield pipes, so if you're going to do it, do it now.
Let me know how it goes.

Yes, but no, but yes.

My friend Bigvan, he kids you. He's not too far off though. I'd put the value around $35-$45.

There have been some pretty big leaps to associate certain pipes with the one Kevin Costner smoked, but I dont think I have the imagination to see this as one of them.

That is a very nice pipe for your first briar, it will serve you well....congrats.

Get yourself a couple of corn cob pipes to go along with it(they are cheap as dirt).

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the site. My first pipe was a Savinelli Linea Piu 5 and it is still in my regular rotation. Your Savinelli should provide many years of great smoking once you clean it up. It is a great brand to start with.
