Congrats on your win but a word of caution. I buy a lot of estate pipes from antique shops and have seen a lot of bad pipes. I have seen quit a few pipes that are 30-40 dollar pipes but are going for 10 bucks because the stem is so tight you would have to almost break the stem to get it out.
I am only telling you this because I know you are new to restoring and don't want you to get a sour taste if you get a bad pipe off eBay. I hope they work out for you. Good luck.

thanks for the advice.the places i got my pipes from said the stems fit snug but not too tight. alsothe pipe shop Pauls pipes is about 35-40 miles from where i live, and they restore pipes so if i cant do it or if i ever get anything in need of major work i can go there.

Yeah but you can gently sand the tenon to fix that. I got a peterson new from a store and the tem was so tight i thoight i would break it off, but gentle sanding and now its perfect.

You're not alone... I got crushed by PAD this week and bought 5 pipes off of flea bay. They were all under $20 and I have received 2 of them so far. I'm not disappointed exactly, but the pictures did make them look better than they do in real life... I guess they are about what I expected although I hoped for more  Hope yours turn out to be everything you hoped for! If not, you can still smoke 'em! :puffpipe:
Now my PAD has shifted into PRESAD (Pipe Restoration Equipment and Supply Acquisition Disorder). I now have estate pipes that are not wonderful as-is, but show some promise... so I gotta pretty them up before I can smoke them! PRESAD Time!
edit: Hey Shantiques, my new peterson had a really tight stem as well, I thought something was wrong with it until I finally wiggled it out. Over time it has worn to fit much better, though still a bit snug.

I think we have the same pipe... I have one just like this. It smokes well enough, and is great when I don't have a lot of time.
