Bond Street Adventure

Several years ago I managed to buy a tub of unopened Phillip Morris Bond Street. I had not tried it when it was available so I opened it and gave it a try. I felt like a bad boy who had his mouth washed out with soap. It had a deep soapy, floral essence that overpowered everything. I did not care for it and put it away. The other day I felt adventuresome and opened it again and mixed a portion of it with Virginia Gold Black Cavendish. I lit it up and was surprised that I could tolerate it. The Cavendish had smoothed out the soapy taste and the floral essences to the point that it actually reminded me a little of a Lakeland blend. I have since had several bowls and am beginning to like it. I know that Sutliff has a Match Bourbon Street, which is a match to Bond Street after House of Windsor bought it out. Has any forum members tried Match Bourbon Street or smoke it regularly and what are your impressions? i don't think I will smoke it often, but if I live to 150 the tub may get used up.

This is definitely a lattice of coincidence, my 84yr old neighbor was just telling yesterday that her father used to smoke a tobacco called Bond Street and it was a little tin with pictures of buildings on Bond street on it and she asked if i have ever heard of it and until this minute that was the first i ever heard of it, again a true lattice of coincidence (for you Repo Man fans).

I ordered a sample of Match Bourbon Street along with a few other Match blends in early 2020. My recollection of Bourbon Street was not a soapy mess like your experience with Bond Street. Rather, it was a lightly aromatic blend that was difficult to discern a particular flavor from. Nonetheless, it was a perfectly fine, middle of the road sort of codger blend. FWIW, by far, my favorite of them was the Match Flying Dutchman. I've got a couple pounds of that one resting in the cellar.

Isn't Bob Runowski's Pegasus blend supposed to be an attempt to mimic Bond Street? I'd be curious to know how close the two taste. I never had Bond Street, but I have had Pegasus, and it is delicious.

Pegasus is very Burley forward while the Bond Street that I received in the tub (which has to be at least 25 to 30 years Old) is rather soapy and floral.

I remember that very article too , and when I first smoked some new Pegasus I thought it was really sour so I jarred it for a few months I was surprised as I decided to bring it and a few other burleys to my shop then fell in love with it one rainy day and smoked about 5 Bowls back to back now I order it by the pound.

The Phillip Morris tub of Bond Street that I managed to get is very soapy and floral. I have Pegasus and enjoy it, but it is nothing like the Phillip Morris Bond Street. I am not a big fan of floral tobaccos, but when I mix some Blacck Cavendish with the Bond Street it becomes a pretty decent smoke. Pegasus does not need a thing done to it. It is just a good quality Burley smoke.
