Our featured interview on The Pipes Magazine Radio Show tonight is with Bob Savage of the Old Dominion Pipe Company. They are one of only two U.S. companies that make corn cob pipes. Bob and his brother Bill own the farm, grow and harvest the corn, and make the pipes themselves. (The unused corn is sold off to become cornmeal.) They are also making replicas of historic clay pipes. In our opening segment, Brian will give a rundown on the latest ruling in the industry's lawsuit against the FDA.

I met Bob at the TAD pipe show in Raleigh N.C. a few years ago and bought a Chesapeake and Laughing Chief. The reed stems really make these excellent pipes for re-enactors or anyone who wants the authentic old-time cob pipe experience. The small pipe is a great full-length smoke with flake. My dad used to have cob pipes with reed stems, in the 1950's, so that is the way I think of cobs. I dote on my MM cobs and buy the ones with acrylic or Vulcanite stems or refit them with Forever stems. But for the historical experience, Old Dominions are the real deal. I keep them out where I can see them and pack them at will. Any Forums member needs an Old Dominion or two to round out the rack.
