Blue Mountain is made by McClellands and comes in a tin that once opened has a plastic cap to go on like cat food.

This tobacco was made for me. If your a Latakia fan this blend is for you.

Opening the tin the tobacco smells wonderful and it looks terrific with the mix of redish brown and the dark latakia.

I found I had to light it 3 times before I had a good steady burn going after the char and it keep going for the most part (2 relights).

This is a Balkin blend that is very smooth and no bite, zero! I have become a bit of a lataholic and this blend doesn't disappoint, the lat jumps right out at you the first puff and stays the main taste throughout the bowl so much so the virginia is barely noticable which is good for me as I'm not a huge fan of virginia.

The room note is no so good, they could change the name to down on the farm for it smells bad but when your smoking it you don't smell it, just everyone else. Good for when that miserable neighbour is down wind.

This is highly recommended by me for any Latakia smokers and I plan on ordering several more tins soon.

The only thing I would change if I could is to add some perique but as one of our members has told me I can do that on my own.

I just tried a small, open tin sample last week and found it nearly tasteless with very little character. This is completely contrary to anything I've ever read on the blend - perhaps it was dried out too much or older? It smoked wonderfully smooth, but nearly devoid of any flavor, particularly Latakia.

I thought this thread was going to be about a really great country rock band from Mississippi.

Blue Mountain is one of my favourites. Have a tin ready to go once I finish up my tin of Blackhouse, which I definitely recommended trying if you haven't already.

I like Blue Mountain, but it's rather light to my taste. I smoke it as an early in the day blend, much as I used to smoke Dunhill's Aperitif. I bought a tin of McClelland's Syrian Full Balkan Tobacco today, which is in the same vain as BM, and I have to say that I prefer it to Blue Mountain by a mile. I prefer McClelland's 3 Oaks Syrian to them both though. I need to try Hearth & Home Blackhouse ASAP.

I bought a tin of Blue Mountain a while back. Haven't opened it yet. Sounds like I'd enjoy it. I'll have to get'er open.

I liked Blue Mountain when I first tried it, and put away about 10 cans to age. Then my tastes changed & I now find the latakia taste too dominant. So I have 8-10 cans to sell to or trade with someone, which has been aged about a year and a half. Good price.

Smoking a bowl as I type this and was just thinking that I better lay in a supply.
Our good Baron was gracious enough to comp me a generous sample of Blackhouse and it's easy to see how those two went toe to toe.
@Choch: Your post just put two McClellands on my "get" list - Syrian Full Balkan Tobacco and 3 Oaks Syrian. Thanks.

This has been my every night smoke for about a week now. Maybe it's just me, but I get a real sweetness from this stuff. It's great! It's got a rich smoke when it's rolling, and after you give it a few minutes it grows into something spectacular. Something I can't quite explain yet; something big. When I finish this tin over the next month or two, I might find the words that I'm looking for.

I haven't tried this one but have a tin of Black House on the way. I'll eventually compare both and report back.

Does this need drying time, or right out of the can???

Jeff

My tin was a bit moist but 25 to 30 minutes out made for a swell smoke. However, it might be just fine for you. I like my tobacco a bit toasty.

I haven't had to dry mine at all. This is a very nice smoke. I recommend it, highly. I will be stocking this heavy in my December order.
