Tell me, is Blobfest the most American thing ever? To annually celebrate a fictional work, by running screaming out of a specific theater?

I thought that we in Britain had some pretty wacky events, like cheese rolling, but Blobfest seems to be next level. Bless y'all.

I had no idea this was a thing. If they have a good time, great. I'm very pleased that the theater is still open and running.

no cheese rolling is super weird. And the fact they claim it started with a guy dropping his cheese wheel centuries ago, makes it weirder. Running out of theaters is just practical in America.

I took my nephews to see the new Jurassic World movie last week and the theater wasn't even crowded. Only spent 28 dollar including snacks as well.

I haven't been to a theater movie showing for years that's had more than 20 people in attendance. My son and I in the past couple of weeks have gone to see How to Train Your Dragon, Elio, Jurassic World, and Superman on their opening weekends and at most, Superman, there were only eight others watching it with us.

Streaming has taken a large chunk of the audience from theatres. Combined with home systems that would have been rich person stuff years ago being accessible to most people if they really want them.
The reasons to go to the theatre exclusivity or if you want to see it before a certain time you have to go to the theatre. That used to be a much bigger thing.
The other reason is because it's the theatre and it's more immersive or more of an event going out. That's not going to apply to every movie you want to watch. I think that's one of the reasons super hero movies are doing so well (one of the reasons). Certain effects and special are just better on the big screen period.

I do miss Alamo Drafthouse.

Me, too! My first Alamo Drafthouse film, in '98 or so, I went to see the blacksploitation classic, "I'm gonna get you, sucka!" and they handed me a "40" in a paper bag on the way up the stairs.

They once screened the LOTR trilogy straight through and served all nine hobbit meals throughout the day long ordeal.

The only thing I miss more from Austin is HEB. I was reminded how awesome they are with recent shots of one of their disaster relief caravans shooting down the road for Kerrville.

Awesome! The last time I went to Alamo they were screening an original 70mm copy of The Thing
I really miss HEB too. These stores up in Ohio in these small towns are terrible. No corn tortillas, no hot salsa, etc.
