Hi, all! I’ve learned a lot from this forum, but can’t find a thread about blends similar to Nightcap in terms of Latakia and Perique.

I’m relatively new to Latakia-forward blends, and I love just about everything I’ve tried. So far, that’s 18 blends:
  • Boswell‘s—Countryside, Mild English, & Northwoods
  • Country Squire—Cornishman & Angry Cornishman
  • Drucquer & Sons—Levant Mixture
  • Esoterica—Margate
  • G.L. Pease—Chelsea Morning, Maltese Falcon, Quiet Nights, & Westminster
  • Mac Baren—HH Latakia Flake
  • Peterson—965, Early Morning Pipe, & Nightcap
  • Samuel Gawith—Skiff Mixture & Squadron Leader
  • Seattle Pipe Club—Plum Pudding
Of these, Nightcap stands out for creating an experience where both the Latakia and Perique really shine.

Could I please get your advice on blends with a similar profile to Nightcap?

Thanks so much!

I concoct a nightcapesque blend, but with a burley base: 60% dark burley, 25% Izmir, 10% perique, 5% Latakia. It’s like a cross between Big nBurley and Nightcap
Okay, this was meant to be! I just bought a bunch of blending tobaccos—including Boswell’s AAA Latakia and ribbon Perique—so I’m ready to mix it up over the holiday weekend.

Any recommendations on how to actually, um, do the actual “mixing?”

Jeremy Reeves has a blending tutorial on YouTube. It's very informative.

I use a digital scale to get the proportions right, then mix the tobaccos thoroughly with my fingers in a large bowl. Then I jar it for a few weeks. To me This last step is important, especially with blends involving perique.

Oh, and keep notes. That way you can tweak it to your tastes

Smoking a bowl of Nightcap now and wanted to say that there’s just nothing like it (at least for me).

For anyone who reads this thread in the future, the only tobacco I’ve found that really hits the same notes for me is Ashton’s “Artisan’s Blend”—it’s not trying to be a Nightcap clone or anything, but it’s a very tasty blend that gives me a similar experience. Hope that’s helpful.
