This is how it starts. At least it is for me anyways. Had some free time last Saturday morning and this happened:

I am really digging the 4oz jars. A 2oz tin splits nicely into two jars. One jar can sit untouched for a period of time and the other can be opened and closed as necessary. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Water soluble food labels are easy to write on, stick well, and come off nicely.
I have more to go and I had to order another 3 dozen jars. I've got plenty of factory sealed tins that I'll leave in the tins, but once opened, into jars it goes. It's actually kind of fun to organize and label everything, but maybe that's just me. Okay, maybe I'm not normal...

Looks like a nice beginning. I started building mine several years ago, and now my original "cellar" cabinet in my kitchen is almost full. I've probably got enough tobacco to smoke for the next five years or so, smoking a few bowls per day, and it's a good feeling looking at all of it and also adding more.
Recalling my days as a cigarette smoker, I remember running out of cigarettes or being concerned about running out of cigarettes at inopportune times. With a well-stocked pipe cellar, there are no such worries. Snowed in for a week? No problem! In that situation I might run out of bourbon and scotch though :crying: :puffpipe:

The start is fun. I'm there too. 30-40 tins accumulated so far. Some for aging and some for smoking whenever I get to it. Several are new to me blends, and the stack is slowly growing. Come sunday I have 10 new tins of various Dunhill blends to join the rest.

Congrats on your cellar. May it follow you for a very long time.

I've been at it for only two weeks and I've already a nice little collection of 11 jarred and 7 sealed. But I aspire to the warehouse level shown in jaytex969's photo. Then I can sit in there all day and never cross the path of anyone.

Nice! Looks like you have a decent plan. I use the 8oz jars for my everyday tobacco rotation (16 jars). My cellar consists of all sealed tins. Once I open a tin it goes right into a jar. Here's a picture of my cellar...very small cellar compared to what I've seen on the forums. My cellar is pretty much anything that hasn't been opened yet.

For me it was one pipe and one pouch of tobacco that I'd had for decades, then about 2 years ago.......

Happily, there is no known cure. ;-)

I like the wide mouth 8oz jars for easy access and stuffing. The only problem is that I dont smoke often enough and I now have 28 Mason jars sitting around and about 10 opened tins. My cellar has over 200 tins resting away. I like to have variety available for my smoking moods.Ive been at it ~6 years.

Soon my friend you'll see that cardboard box that the jars are in now empty and decrepit and you'll look at your china hutch full of tobacco and think both oh no and oh yes.

I want to build a tobacco cellar in our house, but missus have another opinion. So 4-5 jar is all that I have. But plastic bulk tobacco and tinned one is saved in my office though...

Right now I’m trying to lay down very good value bulk like H&H, Sutliff and PS. I’d really like to get some more bulk St James Flake and some Rattrays.
