Hello everyone. Recently I joined to pipe smoking community because I wanted to feel something new and enjoy this relaxing hobby, but I encountered with a problem, I don't know am I drawing a pipe properly?
I used to watch dozen of youtube videos and read many articles and comments where everybody says same: "When you packed your pipe, try to draw it. If it draws like an empty straw, you packed to loose, if it draws like a milkshake, you packed to tight. It is best if draws like a soda. Then you packed properly". Now from a begining I smoked a pipe 5 times and about 15 times I packed a pipe just to learn to do it properly. The problem is, that no mater how I packed a pipe (loose or tight), I don't feel a resistance like a drawing a soda. For me it's more like drawing almost an empty straw. To inhale it's not big deal for me, because I am ex smoker and vaper. I just want to enjoy a pipe like others, without inhaling. So please tell me experienced pipe smokers what I do wrong?
I tried to pack a pype by different ways, I event try to draw a water from glass end then compare a pipe drawing, and there not even close same feel... I tried even pack a pipe as hard as I can, the result, almost empty straw... When I cover a bowl with finger then I feel a resistance of water drawing.
So what I do it wrong? Maybe it doesn't should be drawing a pipe 100% same as drawing a water by straw? Please, help me, because I don't want to give up and throw away this hobby. I know, that requires a lot of patience. Also I don't have any pipe smokers around me, so there isn't any examples, which could show me or help.
Further more, I wanted to ask, why surroundings smells campfire and ashed then I tried to smoke a pipe at home? Do I burnt tobacco or there is other reason?
P.S My pipe is MM Corn Cob Legend and tobacco is Mac Baren Original Choice (blend of Virginia and Burley tobaccos and mixed with Mac Baren Cavendish)
Thank you all of you for any help and advices.
