Stocking up for the year? Unless you plan on being sequestered, imprisoned or deployed to Afghanistan, buying all of your tobacco at once might not be your best option. tastes change, stuff goes on sale, yada yada yada....
As to "go to" Virginia blends, that topic has been covered here ad infinitum. You will get lot's of different opinions, with the usual suspects getting the most mentions. But those are other people's tastes. You really should sample as many different blends for yourself, because that's where all the fun is at!

Sutliff Tobacco Company - Virginia Slices #507-C. Bright Virginia, quite cheap and an all day smoke.
McClelland - GKCPC Boston 1776 (Club Blends), simply a WOW Virginia flake.

Hi there Popester. If you google your subject, you'll get hundreds of responses from here. My current favorite is McClelland 40th anniversary.

Yes about the start of the year I make a list of tobaccos I want to try. All that I am missing are some good Virginia blends.

If you're looking for value in Virginias, consider this:
https://www.smokingpipes.com/tobacco/by-maker/cornell-diehl/bulk/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=79409
You can enjoy it straight or mixed with some of this:
https://www.smokingpipes.com/pipe-tobacco/cornell-diehl/Cube-Cut-Burley/product_id/79413/bulk/
And/or some of this:
https://www.smokingpipes.com/pipe-tobacco/cornell-diehl/Granulated-Perique/product_id/79416/bulk/
Give that mixture a few months in a jar to marry, and you have something on par with commercial offerings, in my view.

No special order. I like all of these and more. It just comes down to what kind of Virginia flavor do I want to enjoy at a given moment. For example, I really enjoy the ketchup-like, sweetly rotten vegetable tang of McClelland's red Virginia, so I'm smoking a lot of the 40th Anniversary blend right now. But at other times I want something with a more citrus/hay/grass note, so it might be FVF, CVP, or Union Square. Maybe I want some of that darker malted taste that I get with Germain's Brown Flake. Just depends of the flavor I want.

Fribourg & Treyer Cut Virginia Plug

Capstan Blue Flake

Astleys no 109 Medium Flake and no 44 Dark Flake

Samuel Gawith Best Brown Flake and Full Virginia Flake

I'm surprised Newminster 400 SNF doesn't get much air play. I found it excellent. And Va. #1.

Keep it down, they might hear you. Newminster has it's followers, I keep 400 and 403 and they do sell out. 400 is a really good bright VA, but that's about it and for me it's not enough on it's own unless I'm putting around. Very one dimensional which makes it a great candidate for mixing in with stouter heavy blends. PPP and Newminster 400 go great together.
