This has probably been asked over and over. What is a good first tobacco? Mild and does not taste of cigarettes. And available in the UK.

Macbaren original choice and absolute choice seemed to stand out from reading their descriptions.
Was also wondering about something from Samuel Gawith like Firedance flake or Best brown.
I don't have a clue really.

If you have a tobacco shop near you, stop in and smell the tobacco they have to offer and ask for recommendations. Buy an ounce of the blends you may think you might want to try and go from there. You will move on from there to buying blends from online shops via Tobacco Reviews.

Burning characteristics are the most important factor in your first tobacco, because you won't taste very much, if anything, for the first few weeks.
(If you're already a Cigar smoker then theoretically you should be able to pick up flavors right away.)

Lucky for you the U.K. is the historical center of tobacco manufacturing of the world, and Gawith Hoggarth makes a lot of Shag tobacco: Shag Pipe Tobacco | Pipe Tobacco | GQ Tobaccos - https://www.gqtobaccos.com/shag-pipe-tobacco/
If I were starting over almost my entire tobacco cellar would be from that list.
Plus Curly Cut Delux for a top quality matured Virginia: Gawith Hoggarth - Curly Cut Deluxe - https://www.gqtobaccos.com/gawith-hoggarth-curly-cut-deluxe-pipe-tobacco-roll-cake/

I found pipe smoking as a way to ditch cigarettes myself so in the beginning I too gravitated towards blends that "did not taste like cigarettes"; that might not be your reason for doing so, but maybe the same still applies.

I'd go with latakia heavier flavor profiles, give Peterson's Nightcap a try. Peterson's Early Morning Pipe is also a good one. Depending on how strong you like your smoke (both nicotine hit and in terms of flavor) there are then a couple of routes you can wander down.

Codger blends are all typically mild, not sure what’s in your area of the UK for them, but Sir Walter Raleigh, or Granger, is a good start.

Just remember, you’re asking others to tell you what you’ll like. Google blends, look at SmokingPipes.com and look at the reviews online.

Google a blend, then look and see if there are reviews for it at;

Virginia’s are what cigarettes are typically made from, so look at more Burley styles starting out, as a possibility, or Latakia blends.

Codger blends such as Sir Walter Raleigh don't seem to exist over here.
I suppose equally some UK brands are hard to come by in the US.
