I have A Savinelli 316 EX and I was wondering about opinions on what goes best with a bowl this size and shape. I have heard that Englishes are great in wide bowls but I have noticed that when smoking some of my favorites the other tobaccos are lost and the Latakia takes over completely all the way to the end of the smoke. Am I missing something? Is there another preferred cut or family that should be smoked in giant conical bowls? Thanks in advance.

Pipe chamber shapes are mainly to accommodate the shape of the bowl. You can greatly affect the flavor of the blend with packing pressure and cadence more so than the dimensions of the pipe. If you're noticing latakia overpowering the same blends in multiple pipes, it may just be what others have experienced and why they've branched out to Virginias and other types of tobacco.

This one seems tricky I've only smoked Latakia blends out of it so far but when I smoke the same blends in a 315 or even 320 I feel I get more nuance. Also I've heard about flakes in conical bowls, just trying to get a general consensus...

Just looked those up. Comparatively speaking, what is a 316 giant to?
I guess it's the Hercules model, the opening at the top is bigger than anything I have definitely dwarfing my Ser Jacopo Maximas It's the widest I have for sure but I don't know how wide they get without becoming outrageous. A current 316 EX one on SP comes in at 1.04 ,guessing my others are between .75-.90

A 316 EX is a little bigger than a 316 KS, if nothing else.

I smoke English/"Balkan" blends out of my 316 KS, in an effort to taste more components at once and not overwhelm myself with nicotine in the process. If it amplifies the Latakia and makes it take over, I don't seem to mind, but perhaps you could try some lower-Latakia blends to see if the balance is restored. Basically, whatever Chasing Embers already said. 😁

Nothing really other than the next size down the Savinelli chart.

A "KS" is Savinelli nomenclature for "King Size." The general measurements for a 316 KS pot are as follows.Screenshot_20230326-142515.pngThe "ES" stands for "Extrordinare" and boasts only slightly bigger dimensions than the "KS". Measurements for a 316 ES pot are below.

Those dimensions may or may not lend to tasting variation, as they are not all that far apart. As @Chasing Embers mentioned already, you'll get more nuanced flavor from your drying, packing, and cadence than you will from 1/10"
