My choice would be Mac Baren HH Old Dark Fired. If you buy 10 tins it works out to about 48.00 a pound for a tinned blend, compared to SG at 64-68 a pound for a bulk. I think I am doing my math correctly 3.5 oz to a tin times ten equals 35 ounces for 105.00 equals 3.00 per ounce equals 48 a pound. Does anyone have any tinned flakes they like that are a great bang for the buck?

roth, what do you think the Davidoff blend really is? They don't make their own and from the description it sounds like PS Luxury Bullseye Flake because of the cavendish. Do you smoke it on occasion?

Cigr - you might also want to factor in re-sale value in the "bang for buck" calculation. Especially since you mentioned earlier that you treat it as an investment.
You might now buy stuff for 48 dollars a pound, which in ten years will be worth 55 dollars a pound due to lack of demand. At the same time stuff that you now pay 60$ per pound, and might be in high demand as vintage blends down the road night go up to 80$ a pound.
Just sayin' - another variable to keep in mind.

+1 on McBaren Navy Flake. Haven't yet smoked ODF since I can never find it in stock at my favorite e-tailer.
FWIW, Peterson Irish Flake is an even better bang for the buck due to its' sheer strength. I can get 3 or 4 smokes out of one flake, and there's usually 22 little slices per 50g tin ....

I agree, Macbaren gives the best value, and a few great flakes too. I like the Old Dark Fired, and Navy Flake.

Orlik Golden Sliced is amazing value, very strong flavored Virginia that costs only $7 a tin! It ages wonderfully, but is a bit overpowering in flavor without additional aging.

For some reason my LBF started biting me a few months ago so I am no longer buying any, I wonder if the Davidoff will do the same? I figure that between my Escudo and Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls, I have enough coined vaper flake in the rotation. I will probably grab a tin though just to say I tired it, who knows, maybe it won't bite me.
Are the PS flakes made by Orlick now?
