Hello guys and ladies.
My name is Pablo, I'm a 23 years old (and counting) chemical engineer from Brasil and i have been always somewhat fascinated about pipe smoking, specially churchwarden pipes (even before Gandalf made them cool). My grandfather smoked cigarettes made with corn straw and tobbacco by himself (i don't know how you call those in english), for hours of meditation looking at his cattle and fields and everything he had. He died of natural causes at an age of 93.
I'm saying that because here were i live, smoking in general isn't very well looked upon. But i'm pretty sure that like everything, smoking in moderation can do wonders for one's body and mind. If you eat a lot, exercise a lot or drive really fast you are taking risks just like smoking a lot, right? Right.
Anyway, for some time now i'm missing something that i don't know what it is. I just can't relax properly by myself like I used to do before college. You know, get lost in thought and shut down a bit. So i'm trying to find ways to turn off and just run myself through my mind. I always liked aquariums too, and i constructed one by myself, and it did work for a couple of years, but now it is turning into just another responsability and that is even more frustrating. It doesn't "trap" me like it used to. The same thing with chimarrão, which is a local beverage here from south america, made with the infusion of hot water and ilex paraguariensis leaves. It's somewhat like pipe smoking, has a lots of types and blends of mate herb (the I. paraguariensis), you do for relaxation and to inject drugs in your system. In this case, caffein. But with all the stress i'm on lately, it is just doing wonders to destroy my stomach. Have i mentioned that I'm taking citalopram because of stress? Yes, it is a medication for people with suicidal tendencies. I'm not too fond of taking giant complex organic molecules artifically synthetized into my body.
So I again started reading about pipe smoking, and seeing how some people find it to be just their thing. I gotta tell you, i hate cigarettes but i somewhat enjoyed the smell of my grandfather's cigarettes (which lots of people always defined as stinky), and i'm pretty sure that the evil thing about smoking cigarettes is the amount of pesticides they throw on that tobbacco and get burned afterwards. I know about that, my godmother had a plantation of tobbacco. And i like fire a lot. Anyway, I'm willing to give it a try.
So, what information can you give to an aspiring begginer and non-smoker yet like me that i haven't yet read on internet begginer and tobbacco choosing guides and such? Like first pipe (I'm pretty sure i'm gonna get a Corncob one because of the relatively low price), first tobbaccos and such? Keep in mind that this isn't a hobby very popular in Brasil, so my resources may be very limited from what i've searched. And what questions can you ask me to help me?
Sorry for my bad english guys.
Thanks in advance.
