So, I have found that, over the years, I prefer slightly longer, thick-walled pipes. The heavier bodies seem to fit well in hand and the thicker walls surely result in a cooler pipe to hold. My favorites include a few Neerups, 4th Generations, Petersons and even a couple of sub premium Lorenzo Italian Volcanos.
Anyone have suggestions on moderately priced names to look into that are known for making more substantial pipes? puffy

Brebbia’s Fat Bob line of pipes are all nice and chunky, but I don’t know if the price points falls under moderate or not. The Savinelli 320 KS Author is a good thick walled pipe and comes in many variants and price points, with the Rossi versions (Savinelli made) usually costing less (Savinelli Series III might be even less expensive, but harder to find now and might actually cost more because of supply and demand).

Moretti makes thick walled pipes.
Artisan pipes at a relatively modest cost - briar and morta (if you’re so inclined.
Marco is a gentleman and responds very quickly to queries
I have several of his pipes - both briar and morta and I’m happy with them all

If you tend towards britwood, Lane era Charatan pipes from the 60s and 70s could get pretty beefy and show off some very pretty grain while doing it.

My tastes lean towards the OP's almost exactly. So I'll second a recommendation for Boswell's pipes. For artisan pipes, his prices are fair. But if that's too rich for your blood, I'd say Nording would be a fine choice, especially if you like Neerups.

This is what came to my mind first. Here’s an example of a morta he’s made:
