I live in what was once a small country farm town.In my life time though like most towns within a few minutes drive of a large city it has grown like a weed on a rainy day. These days it's a large modern city.I don't really meet a lot of pipe smokers here. Most of the ones that I do meet are from the old days.A lot of them are retired on fixed incomes. They really don't have a bunch of money to spend,so they find economical ways to smoke.Today I went to a street fair in town.I noticed an elderly fellow sitting in a wheel chair smoking a pipe.I walked up to him and he smiled. We shook hands.I told him that I don't meet many other pipe smokers these days.I asked what he was smoking. It turns out that it was BCA in a Grabow bulldoog.I started out 40 years ago smoking BCA in a $25 pipe. It's the first tobacco I ever smoked. These days I smoke expensive tobacco in pipes that cost many times what his Grabow did.I doubt though that I enjoy them any more than he enjoys his. That's one of the great things about pipe smoking. There's something for everyones budget.I had a great time today. The street fair was fun,and meeting a fellow pipe made it even more so.

I've not found that more expensive pipes and tobacco are better. It's more like preferences of personal taste and style.

As long as one is pleasing the mind, palate and soul.. what does it matter?
