I was wondering if anyone has come across Barontini pipes in their travels? A brick and mortar I visited had one that I was paticularly keen on - but they were asking $150 for it and I couldn't dig up much information on them. The pipe was a great unsmoked estate but 150 was too much of a gamble. Heres a pic I saved of it and I recall it being stamped "amaretto"

At one time I had a Barontini pipe and it was an excellent pipe. It always gave me an excellent smoke, no matter what I loaded into it. The price you are quoting may be a bit high, then again, it may be right in line with the pipe. However, chances are good that if you got the pipe you would love it.

I had heard that Caesar Barontini largely produced private label pipes and designed for Vauen though also had a line brandishing his own name. Couldn't find much on their relative quality aside from the note that they made several lines - couldn't find out where this example fit in to the mix.

I own a Barontini. It was a gift from my wife many years ago (at least 20-30). It is still my favorite.

There are, or have been 2 pipe company under that name, and many pipes on Ebay for 10% of that asking price, I would pass on the side of caution than pay a price like that without doing good research on that particular pipe.

I just received a Barontini Gran Duo in a lot of pipes.

It is a nice bent Dublin with a smoky grey acrylic stem.

The only other stampings on it are "106" and "Italy".
Still need to clean it up but it looks like a very nice and solid pipe.

Initially I thought it may have been one of the cheap Sav's from the Grezza line.

I really like the Grezzas a lot, great bargain of a pipe.

Not sure about lineages, side-lines, sub-species, etc. This one is well built, good smoking pipe!

So this is a German made pipe with an Italian name? That's unique. If you get to that pipe shop often, I'd make a low-ball offer, maybe $75, if it would be worth it to you. It is a handsome pipe with some pretty birdseye in the briar. If the shop owner says no thanks, maybe go back to ebay (I thought I'd never say that). I think the shop owner might be willing to come down, at least to $100, since this isn't a well-known brand and it may have been sitting around for a while, and it isn't a unique shape.
