I bought this pipe off ebay a few months ago, never got around to sharing it will you all. Not sure how old it is unfortunately - could be 70s or 80s would be my guess.
Sports a sterling band and the grain is really nice. It did have a burn mark that bummed me a bit, so I decided to sand it away, and re-stain it. It's an excellent smoker too.
Barclay-Rex is a tobacco shop in NYC which opened it's doors in 1910, founded by an Italian pipemaker.

Beautiful, I am really starting to like that shape. It might just give my favorite bent bulldog shape a run for it's money!

Thanks a lot guys - I got it for less than $40, so for those of us with low funds, you can get a decent pipe for not so much money. It's definitely a keeper.

Thanks guys - quite fond of this pipe (great smoker and it's a sitter too). :puffy:
Thanks also Al - the re-stain went really well, no issues.

Nice pipe numbersix!

I have a Barclay Rex I would love to re-finish. Curious as to what you used to re-do that pipe.

Cheers

Jim

Thanks Jim. All I did was use 600 grit to erase the burn mark and lightly sanded the rest. I didn't sand it to completely bare wood, but close. Then I used varying grits of micro-mesh to buff it out until it was smooth.
I put painters tape over the silver band and stem and put a single light coat of red-oak minwax stain. I then wiped it off after only a few minutes so that the grain would show through.
Then the next day I polished it with very fine micro-mesh and finished with some carnauba wax.

Thanks gwtwdbss - I have a soft spot in my heart for classic billiards with silver bands. :puffy:
