Bamboo Stem Care

Greetings all. I have a rather nice Tsuge billiard with a 2" bit of bamboo as part of the stem
How do I care for it? Do I use Obsidian oil (which I use on vulcanite routinely) or bowl polish like Halcyon II wax?

I've never done anything beyond wiping the bamboo with my Briar Pipe Wipe cloth when I wipe down the pipe and stem. The bamboo may or may not color over time. If there is a stainless tube through the bamboo, it may not color or, will color minimally.
