Hi guy's

lately i got an interest in buying a bamboo shank pipe.

But can anyone inform me how they smoke, how they need to be maintained, long term effects, etc.?

Most of the pipes that i found on the internet with bamboo shanks don't have a metal tube.

And the best that i could find are from Stanwell bamboo sandblast nr.13 and Tsuge 290 (109-120euro).

Hope you guy's can inform me.

What style of pipe are you interested in and what is your price point? I can help you further if I have this information, bamboo is a fine medium for shank use and not every maker uses tubing for their transitions to the bowl or the stem, this doesn't make them inferior just a difference in how they approach the transitions. I have over 20 in my collection from vintage makers to modern, corn cobs to meerschaum all great smokers, regards.

The Dane's were among the first to use the combination of bamboo and briar on high end pipes- mainly because briar was in such limited supply after the war.On the subject of full tube vs. a tenon at the beginning and end, either one works well- the full tube being easier to clean in the long term.- the two at the upper right use carbon fiber tenons because there's a slight curve in the bamboo. The other two are straight and use full length carbon fiber tubing. Most common tenons or tubes are stainless steel- Either works well- Eltang occasionally uses CF as well as Joao Reis. (Sorry for the crappy picture- I'm in the shop today and just took a quick shot of some recent ones...)

Zack24; those are some mighty fine pipes. I really like the 2 middle ones.
fishnbanjo; the styles i like on a bamboo shank are acorn, apple, billard, pot and maybe egg, preferably with acrylic bit, no filter and smooth or rustic. But i like smaller tobacco chambers(about dunhill group 2). But the lowest price would be the best(max 165usd), because i'm still a student so i can't afford the high end pipes.

I also live in the EU, so import taxes will probably skyrocket the cost of the pipe with 50% if i buy it outside the EU.
I know that price requirement is really absurd. The cheapest bamboo pipe i could find in the EU was from stanwell and that cost about 115euro.
If you still can help me, thank you very very much.

Damn i wish i could graduate, work and buy better pipes.

The question is : does the metal tube causes any condensation when smoking?

So far, I have mounted my bamboos pipes with briar junction but I would gladly get any feedback about this point.

I have a weakness for bamboo shanks. Got lots. Dunhill, Tsuge Ikebana, Heeschen, Davidson, Lindner, Eltang, Kovalev, Asteriou - that's it I think. Never noticed any difference with moisture compared to any other pipes. I wouldn't worry about that.
