Bald Headed Teacher

While rooting through the cellar today, I came upon a large jar of Bald Headed Teacher from 2013. I must have bought a pound or two at the time, and the jar is now half empty. It was still moist, probably too moist to smoke, but I packed a bowl anyway and puffed away while I did some cleaning up. What a pleasure! I’m not usually an aromatic smoker, but this was the first blend that I really latched onto. Smooth and rich, with topping notes of vanilla and other unidentifiable scents. The room note was sweet and bready.



I probably moved this jar to the cellar as I got more into non-aros, and forgot about it. I know that I bought it from 4Noggins, and was wondering if the blend made the transition from Rich Gottleib to the “new” ownership. Google showed it was still available, and TobaccoReviews just deepened my curiosity when I read @JimInks review. Jim said his initial review was for the McClelland version (?????) and his update was for whatever happened post-McClelland. Did McClelland originally blend this for 4Noggins? Help, Jim!

Bald Headed Teacher did indeed use McClelland components. I smoked the last of mine in 2022.

But I recently ordered some from 4 Noggins and while it’s different, it’s still recognizably Bald Headed Teacher and still a very enjoyable smoke.

My cellar is the actual cellar in our house. The house dates to 1939, but was built over a preexisting barn foundation from the Colonial period. It’s about 1000 square feet. It was empty when we moved in, now it’s packed. I’ve posted some pix in the past, it’s quite a mess. So it’s easy to lose stuff in there. I’ve tried my best to segregate the pipes and tobacco, but short of initiating some kind of bar code inventory system, there’s no way to remember what all I have. I may have mentioned in the past that my memory is a bit funky. I drowned when I was three, and fortunately there was someone on the beach in 1966 who knew CPR and revived me. Nobody knows how long I was under water, but it was a while. So that kind of fucked up the old hippocampus. It’s not like every time I go down to the cellar is Christmas morning. Once I see something, I usually remember, but like today, sometimes I forget about the ten tins of 2013 Escudo.

I’m glad to hear this. Bald Teacher is a favorite of mine. I still have a two pounds from 2013. Been thinking about adding a couple of pounds for aging.

I’m glad to hear this. Bald Teacher is a favorite of mine. I still have a two pounds from 2013. Been thinking about adding a couple of pounds for aging.

It won’t be the same, but it will be similar. I think they did a good job of making the replacement. I wasn’t disappointed.

They did use McClelland tobaccos, but I don't know who did the actual blending.

But that was Kramers blend and well the name just created confusion. Confusion that lead to violence, slapstick violence but still that's a bit for a blend that no one buys because they assume it's got toxic glue in it.
