Baked A Tin Of McBarens Highland Blend

Put it the oven at 185 degs and forgot about it, 8 hrs it had stayed in. Pulled it out, let it cool. It had clumped together like it had Carmalized, Jared it and about 2 weeks later smoking it in a Meer, much deeper fuller flavor, figgy kind of taste. Really smoother. McBarens H&H Highland Blend.

What a fortuitous mistake! Your result sounds so interesting that I may try your method with a tin of that same blend from my cellar. One question though: had your tin previously been opened, or was it still sealed?

It was an unopened tin,if open place a small sheet of foil and seal top,No my oven is not Ghosted.And as Julie Child would say First You Do The Pate. :laughat:

I told my wife I was going to try the Bradley Bake on a tin of tobacco and I thought the place had caught on fire. You never heard such screeching!
Needless to say, you need to bake the tins when the little woman is out shopping or having tea with the girls.
Or get a new wife!

Dr. Fred Hanna wrote the first article on tin baking I am aware of. Google him or maybe check out NASPC's site. Good read> I have never tried it because I am fine with aging tobacco the old fashioned way but, I may try it with a tin of Chelsea Morning.

Whoever tries this should post a picture of the results. Caramelized tobacco sounds interesting.

. When I opened the jar to take picture, the aroma of dates, figs, tobbaco wafted thru the air. To jar it it had clumped together and I had to break it apart.

That was what I was thinking. Surprised it didn't burst all over his oven. lol

Wouldn't the rubber seal in the tin lid melt/burn and turn everything a bit oompa loompa-ish? I am also surprised the tin didn't explode with tobacco being flung all around the culinary preparation area of the home. I wonder what would happen if I baked Condor? I might give that a try this weekend just out of curiosity!

"Today We're Baking With Brad" (wink wink) Preheat oven to 180 degrees, place sealed tin of MacBaren HH Highland on a sheet of foil and fold into a loosely sealed tent. Then select a pint jar of Sutliff Peach Cobbler with a tight lid and place both on a centered oven shelf. Set timer to 4 hours and be patient. Enjoy! (what Julia would say here) :clap:

Anyone ever bake a Perique flake? I picked up a tin of St. James Flake today and thinking about opening the tin, jarring half, doing the tinfoil trick and baking the other half. Jar both until spring then I could take both baked and unbaked to my next smoking night with the lads and see if anyone notices any difference.
