The question has been asked more than once and unanswered, so I will start a thread. You folks that are continually finding poorly built Peterson pipes, where the heck are you getting them from?
As I have said in other threads I would buy no pipe that didn't pass my eye ball test, felt good in my fist and had a cleaner stuffed up it's bit and stem. I have more than a few Peterson pipes, all to some degree bent, some with the P-lip, others without, some system, some not. While there are a couple that do not readily accept, full bents, the cleaner, all are good to great smokers.
I suspect that most of you are purchasing pipes sight unseen. From what vendors did those of you with bad Peterson pipes purchase item? And, did the vendor refund, exchange, or in some other way make you satisfied?
I'd like to put together a large box of these poorly made smokers and ship them off to Peterson for their edification and perhaps an explanation.

All my Peterson's are Estates. Bought of members from forums or Ebays.
All of them are exceptional quality. All of them are great smokers. None of them I paid more than 25 bucks for ;)

I have 17 Petersons, some bought new at a B&M, some from smokingpipes.com, some from jamesislandpiper.com, some were bought as estates. I've had no problems with mine, they're all good smokers.

As I have said a number of times on Forums, I am fully satisfied with my six Peterson pipes. These

are very different types of pipes -- rusticated and smooth, Group 4's and a Group 1, one P-Lip and

the rest fishtails. I'm comparing them with a number of name brand pipes and artisan hand-carved.

I'm sorry if others have had a bad experience, but I am most pleased with the Peterson pipes I have.

I think most of my Petersons came from smokingpipes.com, but the Group 1 Belgique rustic came

from iwanries.com.

I'm happy with mine also. What I would like are responses from unsatisfied Pete owners and the info regarding where they purchased these poorly built pipes. I know that there are such members as they are always bemoaning their Peterson pipes.
Thanks for your responses though.

My only issue with Peterson was the P lip. After hearing that people just filed this part down, I did this and it has become one of my most enjoyable smokers. It never had a quality issue though, it was clearly a very well made pipe thaf I thought would be perfect with a fishtail. I got that pipe on Amazon because I had a giftcard. Don't remember the seller, but he had a lot of new Peterson's available. I didn't know people had quality problems with Petersons.

There appear to be a few members that have gotten some really "stinko" Pete's. Read just about any thread that references Peterson pipes and you will get the idea.
As none of them, at this time, have responded in this thread, maybe they are all off-line.
I really would like to send of bunch of these pipes back to Peterson. They either have an employee sabotaging their product or else they have made their quality control staff redundant. That is . . . if you believe all of the truck that has been posted on this forum.

You keep demanding responses, but the thread is a whopping two hours old. Give it a day. Someone will pipe up.

I bought mine from one of the forum sponsors. Yes it was sight un-seen. I did see a picture of the pipe, but I did not hold it before I bought it. I have yet to hear a reply back from the vendor, so I'll refrain right now from saying who it was.
Peterson jumped on it to replace the pipe AND they are willing to make sure they cut the pipe to fit the stem I have since the stems are each unique in their swirl designs.

About 20 years ago, I sold, traded or gave away all the Petersons I had accumulated over the years. Since then, I haven't had a single problem with any of them.

2 loosers from Ebay, and one from Iwan Ries. After having the two Ebay disasters, I had asked Iwan Ries to check for defects before sending, he sent me a Pete with a large chunk of the bowl missing, like a beaver chewed it off, and a metal band that wasn't even connected to the pipe, it was outside of the pipe, sitting in the bag next to the pipe, completely loose. All I know is I won't be buying from Iwan Ries ever again.

I expected a torrent of responses with all of the bitching about Peterson that goes on in the forum. Must say I'm dissappointed. Maybe the one's I've directed this question to are reluctant to name the vendors for fear of offending them. I find that hard to believe as when a vendor messes up they are usually quickly identified to the members with a rant or, at times, a cogent complaint which can be addressed by the vendor and most likely the problem corrected with an accompanying explanation.
Do not mean to appear demanding, I'm just trying to keep the thread on topic. I am well aware that most here seem to be satisfied with the Petersons they own.
Eric: Thanks. That's what I'm looking for. I will query IRC.

I fear offending no one. I will give them a chance to reply to my issues just to see what the answer is before I say they suck or they are a good vendor.
Unless they read this thread, they will have no way of knowing that Peterson is already taking care of the problem and their answer only means if I do future business with them or not.

My first and only Peterson was purchased last week from 4noggins. Site unseen. It's hard to get the pipe you want when nobody around you has the pipe or there are no shops around so your forced to go through online vendors BTW.
It was drilled wrong. It's on its way back today for a refund. Will I buy another Pete? Probably not. With the amount of defective pipes reported and with my first hand experience why buy from them when there are so many other pipe makers that want my cash. I do love thier shapes though.

I can't speak to the missing wood, but the metal band issue seems more of a shipping thing than Iwan Ries trying to screw you. If you ordered it in cooler months, it probably froze and thawed a couple of times on its way to you. Wood expands and contracts a lot more than metal does. Metal bands come loose under extreme conditions like that.
