Good day all. I am new to this board and coming back into pipe smoking. Ive enjoyed tobacco in its various forms for many years. Mostly cigars for the last 20 years. I have quite a collection of them, but rediscovered the joys of the pipe. I look forward to learning a lot and enjoying general banter.

if you take pipe tobacco as "normal,," most of it tastes distinctly different than the tobacco used to make cigars, although it is the same species. Because of is pressure-fermenting, perique comes the closest.

Just as the tobaccos are dissimilar so too is the smoking technique needed to enjoy them. Now in general the slower it is smoked the better the flavor. In the cigar world I enjoyed the company of a gentleman who only puffed at intervals, when the cherry was close to going out. In the pipe world it is dispermited to puff. One sips.

I never learned to do this. Those that do at the start enjoy the pipe much more.

Jimmy,

Welcome from Sydney, Oz
Very similar story here - smoked a pipe from the early 70's and put them away when we were expecting our 1st.
Smoked cigars exclusively after the boys grew up, and rediscovered the joys of pipes 3 years ago.
Have really been enjoying pipes since, with the occasional cigar. Being a part of the Forums community have really enhanced my experience.
