I let most of my tobacco sit out a bit before smoking. At a minimum, 15 minutes, at a maximum, couple of hours. FVF is in the latter category for instance since I find it to be really moist when it comes out of a tin, especially a new one. But I like my baccy on the dry side.
With regards to tobacco preferences, you're correct. We all have our favorites. Some people experience bite from VA's and Burleys. I personally seem to have serious issues with Lats but not VA's. I'm a VA and VA/Per smoker. Escudo... yum !
Keep little notebook or so close by, write down what you're smoking and how it felt. Then you can start figuring out which baccy's you like and which ones you don't. Or just find one you really like and stick with it ;-)

Well, I must have messed up my original question so here it is again...
"Another question relating to the various types of baccy. Is one or two mostly preferred over others and some more culled? Such as do some prefer Virgina blends over English and is Perique or Latakia having a great following? I know this is an individual ting but in general. One of those kind of bites my tongue and I'm not sure which."

Virginia's bite me bad if I'm not careful. Aromatics will smoke ok if you let them dry a while before smoking. Funny enough I'm finding I get less bite or no bite from blends with a high lat content ie 40% to 50% and they taste good too. Perique is added sometimes for additional flavour to a blend. To me it creates a black pepper taste that I'm really liking but I know some people don't like it.
