So I had a few minutes to stop into a local B&M on my way to work today. I had wanted to swing by for some time, but its kind of out of the way, and look what little gem I find sitting in the almost empty pipe cabinet. Its a Peterson Great Explorer Series "Shackleton", a nice size volcano. The young proprietor says "the thing has been here since before I came", and comments that cigars are more their thing now. From what I understand Ashton now has Peterson, so the older Dublin mades might be harder to find. Question 1 - How do I get the old price tag off of a rubber stem? Question 2 - I gave just under 2 C-notes, deal ?:

Those pipes were pretty pricy new, it obviously has some serious oxidation and will need a good clean. Just soak the stem in some hot soapy water to get the tag off and then do a thread search on stem restoration. There are lots of helpful posts on it

Yeah, I tried to bring him down more. I couldn't find any recent prices as the series is somewhat old, but what I could find indicated the selling price is around $270.00. With a new system standard going for over 100.00, and rusticated Sherlock Holmes series going for 175.00 I figured I did decent. I plan to work on the stem a bit tonight. Thanks for the input!

Well that series is a higher quality than say the sherlock series so I'de say you did alright. And the shakleford is just cool, he was a beast!

Thanks for the info. Seriously, if anyone wants the Crean, which they had, PM me and I'll let you know where it is.
That site wants about 186.00 American plus VAT plus shipping...I probably could have got it for a bit less, but it was calling me!

Did some light work on the stem, and cleaned it up a bit. Still more to do, but its looking pretty good:

Thanks all, I'm going to give the stem another round. I just cleaned it with the magic eraser and gave it a bit of chapstick for now.

It's a good looking pipe. I'm not sure $200 was any kind of "deal," but if the pipe called out to you, and it smokes well, that's the test.
"The value of a thing is the price it will bring." Adam Smith, more or less.
