Hey folks, my parents are visiting London next month, and I asked my dad to bring me some pipe tobacco when he comes back. Now I have never been to London, so I wouldn't even know where to start a search for a B&M. I am looking for something that is also pretty close by to the touristy places, as my parents don't speak English and I would hate for them to be roaming around London just to find a tobacco shop. Any ideas, you English smokers? Oh, and also is there anything specific to London? I wouldn't want them to bring over an international brand that I can buy anywhere in Europe, perhaps something that is blended locally?

Warren, yes i gould do that, but i thought that people may direct me better. If it was I who made the visit, I would have visited a few, but given the situation a hit and miss would be out of the question with my parents, they have an age and are less patient with certain things.

Well then, put them up at Duke's Hotel and they will be within easy walking distance to J. J. Fox on St. James. The good folks there will be able to advise of the current state of affairs with regard to London's tobacco and pipe businesses. Then it's just a matter of enjoying a couple of London "taxi" rides. Great experiences in themselves.
I can highly recommend the hotel and Fox's.

Mullins and Westley, located in Covent Gardens. Possibly the finest I have experienced in London. A little reduced in stock compared to 30 odd years ago, but still superb. They sell their own blends.
Covent Gardens is a nice place, that your parents may enjoy spending a little time in - they wouldn't be there just for tobacco, so it may be more enjoyable for them, and you may feel a little happier sending them on this errand.
Avoid taxi rides if possible - expensive. London has a SUPERB public transport system that is an experience in itself and a great way to get around and see London.

I've not found cabs to be expensive. Depends on how one values their time I suppose. Certainly they are faster than the buses (enjoyable in themselves but time consuming), and faster, safer, more direct than the "underground."

Frankly, I'd not have them try to purchase tobacco in London. Horribly expensive. Let them just enjoy hacking around town.
Of course, if it really means something to them, or to you, JJ Fox and Davidoff are walking distance from Duke's Hotel, all in St. James.

Thank you, gents. I doesn't really mean anything special to me, but I was thinking that if they are in London they might as well. If they manage to go by JJ Fox of Covent Garden and get me something I cannot buy on the continent I would be happy, if not oh well ... so be it.
