Hello,

Just wanted to share a tool that might be of interest for oral health. Regardless of its spiritual nature and Western views of Ayurvedic medicine as pseudoscience, I feel this tool does contribute something.

The first time I used it I got rid of a gnarly white layer on top of my tongue... Dead cells? I don't know, but brushing my tongue apparently does nothing. Besides removal dead surface cells, this potentially helps revitalize taste, and decrease bad breath, while removing toxins from our pipe smoke that may have made their home on our tongues.

I feel it was worth the couple bucks and just a few moments of maintenance now and then. I don't use it after I eat, my gag reflex seems to take hold.

Tongue scrapers are offered by dentists' offices and you can buy them at almost any drugstore. They're just not that common a practice. My dentist has recommended me to do this and I occasionally do, but I'm just sloppy about doing it.
Hmm, that's good then. I've never seen one at any of the dentists I've been to. I was always told to brush my tongue and a few toothbrushes I've owned had those bristles on the back, but I don't think anything works as particular good as this simple device.

Use of tongue scrapers is very common in Asian countries.
Much easier to use your toothbrush to brush your tongue.
Some toothbrushes even have a rough "tongue scrapping" surface on the reverse side.

generally it's consider pretty advanced for it's time and place. And modern medicine dips into the Ayurvedic medicine from time to time. In fact modern plastic surgery has it's roots in Ayurvedic medicine.
