Savinelli Antique Shell Sitter - 320KS (New)

The Savinelli came with a triangle piece of balsa wood in the shank and a a plastic piece that fits just right inside the shank. Is the wood meant to be a filter and is the plastic supposed go in the shank if not using the filter?

Am I supposed to use the adapter? I feel the pipe has a better draw without it and it seems to fit fine without either the filter or the adapter.

It will be a while before I open any of the tins. As you can see in the pics above I have a lot open already and want to try to keep it to a minimum as far as open tins. You can find great reviews here. It is a site that is related to this one so there is plenty of quality information as found on pipesmagazine.com.

Happy Birthday and anniversary! You are a lucky guy to have such a generous wife.
I have Savinellis that I use with and without the adapter, it seems to make little difference. I would say it is probably a little easier to clean with the adapter and thus may be preferable if you smoke it heavily.
You might want to try the virginia in one pipe exclusively for a while to avoid ghosting from the aromatics.

Jarl pipes are awesome, if the two I own are any indication.

I think theres some mystery about who actually made the pipes, but yours is really similar in style to my Jarl Chieftain and should be an A1 Best-In-Class top notch smoker.

I have the same Savinelli and its a brilliant pipe too.
