Askwith "Devil Anse" pipe

I highly recommend pro pipemaker Chris Askwith. Here's a "Devil Anse Hatfield" pipe based on the Costner series he did for me with a yellow swirl stem and light colored sandblast finish. I absolutely love it. I'm about to give it it's maiden voyage... now what tobacco to select?

I will admit to a little worry here... although I have not experienced heat or bite issues with other short pipes, including an Askwith chubby morta pot.
This however is the tiniest pipe in my collection. I'm hoping the wide open draw and quality briar will eliminate my concerns. I'll report back in about an hour!

Aha! Dark fired Kaintuck would have been perfect but alas it didn't occur to me. I'm smoking a bowl of Chief Catoonah "Virginia Blend" and it's working out very well. This little pipe just wants to stay lit, and is smoking col and dry. Effortless draw and a comfy clencher for those so inclined. Really a sweetheart of a pipe.

First smoke almost done and it was awesome. No heat issues. Very handy little pipe.
